Solvent-based pad printing ink is made from a mixture of proprietary binders, resins and pigments. The pigments are pulverized and triple-milled to produce an extremely fine, premium quality pigment that gives the color. Solvent-based pad printing and screen printing inks typically consist of one or two components. An ink that only requires one component—solvent—to be combined is referred to as a one-component ink. Solvent is often applied at a rate of 15% of the ink's weight. The same ink can be found in a 2-component ink, however it can also take a hardener. Depending on the kind of ink, different hardener ratios are required, but generally hardener should be applied at a weight of 10% of the ink.
